MTP for Mac is a kernel filesystem driver that let you access Android™ gadget's files by USB. Connect Android to macOS. It gives you native access* to your Android (or any other MTP compatible devices**) on macOS (Mac OS X). Just connect your Android phone or tablet via USB cable to your Mac and you will get access to your photos, mp3, or any other types of files on its internal file systems. You will get them the same way as you would insert flash or any other external drive. After connecting via USB cable, your gadget will appear in the system as another drive.

That means that you can access any files on your mobile device from Finder or any other software on your Mac. And it's already unnecessary to copy these files with Android File Transfer to your local disk in advance to use them.

It makes a seamless user experience.

Connect your Android smartphone or tablet to your Mac using a USB cable. Drag to open your Android device's notification drawer and tap the 'Charging this device via USB' notification. In the subsequent pop-up, select 'File Transfer.' Switch back to the OpenMTP application on your Mac and click the 'Refresh' button.

If you want to transfer photos and videos from your Android smartphone to your PC, we often recommend the MTP mode, i.e. the Media Transfer Protocol.

Here we show you how you can set Android to always activate this mode when you connect your smartphone via USB: First, the developer options must be enabled.

Proceed as follows (menu items vary depending on device and Android version):

1. Opens to unlock the developer options in Android settings.

2. Navigate here to 'Device Information' and then to Software Info

3. You now see an entry with 'Build Number'

Mtp

4. Now quickly tap this entry several times - After about seven taps the developer mode is activated under Android.

The developer options are now active. Now you can activate MTP for USB permanently as follows:

1. Open the Android settings and then the 'Developer Options' (Activate them if not done)

2. Scroll down and select 'USB Configuration'

3. Set the marking at 'MTP Mode (Media Transfer Protocol)'

You have now switched the USB configuration to MTP mode under Android. This means that your Android smartphone always connects in this mode, which means that you can easily transfer files and photos.
